Barrier based risk management in healthcare
It is not sufficient to merely identify risks when it comes to healthcare. Risks need to be analyzed and appropriate safety measures need to be identified and monitored.
The bowtie methodology complements risk identification methods like HFMEA studies and provides a deeper understanding of your risk. Some questions that need to be answered are:
- Do we have enough (or too many) safety measures?
- Can we focus more on hardware or systems, instead of procedures?
- Do we know who is accountable for our safety measures?
- Are the safety measures as adequate and reliable as we thought they would be?

Patient safety bowties
This project was set up with the goal of introducing the bowtie risk assessment method into healthcare and to offer encouragement to healthcare organizations, such as hospitals, when performing a proactive risk assessment.
The project is a collaboration between Ed Janssen - Ed Janssen Risk Management Consultancy, Yolanda de Graaf - 9Lives & Bob van Riek – Wolters Kluwer Enablon Bowtie Suite.
Whitepaper Covid-19 risk management
For many organizations and situations, there is no script yet to combat the corona crisis. Measures are devised ad hoc and the effect is often unclear. Versatec has written a Dutch whitepaper to create safe situations and to stay “in control” and “in compliance”.

Dit project is opgezet met als doel bowtie te introduceren in de zorg en inspiratie te bieden voor ziekenhuizen bij het uitvoeren van een PRI met behulp van BowTieXP.
De bowties die als onderdeel van dit project zijn ontwikkeld, zijn gebaseerd op de 10 thema’s van de VMS praktijkgids. Voor elk thema zijn één tot vier bowties ontwikkeld.
